Looking back. . .                                                                                                  Established 1989

Over the past twenty plus years in business, Phil Burke Rigging continues on the leading edge of providing rigging systems for ground-breaking live event experiences such as the Lollapalooza festival tour, a road show of music, community and culture masterminded by Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction; the Riverdance tour configured from the Broadway production to a travelling arena production; the NFL Experience annual amusement park for football fans held on the Super Bowl site, produced by Party Planners West; Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom Huck Jam action sports arena tour converging a rock concert with death-defying motor-cross, BMX bike and skateboarding feats; and the Bakersfield, Business and Finance Conference bringing in some of the most prestigous global leaders held in the world's largest clear-span tent.

The progression started with Phil’s business cleaning screens in movie theatres throughout the western states, then graduated into installing movie theatre screens, drapery and sound systems at the advent of THX surround sound for major movie studio companies.  He mixed in some shop carpentry, studio lighting and rigging for television before going on the road with live concert tours.  He started off on the General Public North American tour for Fine Focus Lighting.  As many of you know getting a job in this business is being in the right place at the right time.  While returning a sub-rented Avolites QM500 lighting console he was offered a job with Delicate Productions on an Engelbert Humperdinck show programming the same console.  He went on to work as both a lighting technician and rigger  for Delicate on many special event projects and concert tours including Crowded House, Midnight Oil, Love and Rockets and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Work in the live event market sparked his interest in owning production gear, leading to Phil Burke Rigging.   In the beginning, the business focus was sub-rental of truss and chain motors to audio/visual production companies, emerging into complete rigging systems and services packages.  As the special event market exploded, Phil acted on the need to develop specialty rigging hardware such as custom air-wall hangers, beam clamps and tent clamps to support audio/visual production in hotel ballrooms and clear-span tents.
